Linda Sikhakhane closes the South African leg of his LINDA album tour in Durban today, 4 October, with an intimate performance at The Chairman before the project travels to the United States later this month.

The self-titled fifth album is produced by Nduduzo Makhathini and circles purpose, belonging, love, lineage and spirituality. The title also turns inward: Sikhakhane has connected his own name with the idea of patience, making the record a meditation on allowing a life and a musical language to unfold in their own time.

That idea suits his music. Sikhakhane’s work is rooted in South African jazz while remaining porous to contemporary textures, collaboration and the spiritual vocabulary that has long shaped the country’s improvisational tradition.

The tour opened in Johannesburg on 1 October, moved to Cape Town on 3 October and reaches The Chairman in Durban at 16:00 today. Later in October, dates are scheduled in Boston, Philadelphia and New York.

There is something fitting about the South African leg ending in Durban. Sikhakhane was born in Umlazi and is rooted in KwaNongoma; before LINDA moves outward, the music gets to pass through home.
