There is a version of a city you see from a car window. Then there is the version you notice when you stop: the lettering on a shopfront, the colour someone chose for a gate, the careful arrangement of a pavement display. A city has more than one kind of designer.
Creativity does not always arrive with an exhibition opening. Sometimes it is practical. A hand-painted sign has to earn its place by telling you something clearly. A tailor has to make the proportions work on an actual body. A good street photograph starts with paying attention, long before it starts with a camera.
That is the kind of attention we want to bring to CREATIVE KONG. To the things people make, the choices behind them and the places that shape those choices. South Africa deserves stories that get close enough to notice the detail.
On your next familiar route, pick one detail you would usually miss. Learn who made it. Ask before taking a portrait or photographing inside a shop. Buy something if you can. The point is not to turn every place into content. It is to remember that someone else's everyday work can change the way you see your own city.
