The headliner reveal is official
British singer-songwriter Olivia Dean will headline the third South African edition of Milk + Cookies Festival, with performances in Cape Town on Friday, 29 January 2027, and Johannesburg on Sunday, 31 January 2027. Organisers confirmed the booking on 23 October after a promotional campaign that invited fans to guess the international headliner.
Dean joins a programme that already includes South African artists Elaine and Zee Nxumalo, alongside Chelsea Sloan and Jade T. The festival says further acts and the wider Music Week schedule will be announced later; names not yet announced should not be treated as confirmed.
The Cape Town edition will take place at Sandringham Farm, a change from the Kenilworth Racecourse venue used in 2026. The Johannesburg event returns to Nasrec Expo Centre.
Why this booking matters
Dean arrives after a breakout period for her second album, The Art of Loving, and the single Man I Need. In 2026 she won the Grammy Award for Best New Artist and four BRIT Awards. Her live reputation has grown alongside sold-out arena performances.
The choice also underlines Milk + Cookies’ refusal to build its South African identity around one sound. Its first local edition in 2025 was led by electronic producer Kaytranada; rapper Gunna followed in 2026. A soul-pop headliner in 2027 brings a different audience into a festival already mixing music with food, fashion, art and design.
For South African artists, a shared programme with an internationally recognised performer can offer access to new listeners. The extent of that opportunity will depend on set times, stage allocation and the fuller programme, which have not yet been published.
Tickets: dates to put in the calendar
Pre-registration opened on 23 October and is available through the festival’s ticketing platform. The presale is scheduled for Wednesday, 28 October at 10:00 South African time, followed by general sales on Friday, 30 October via Howler.
The festival is advertised as strictly for attendees aged 18 and older. Ticket prices had not been confirmed in the reviewed announcements, so prospective attendees should check the official ticketing pages rather than relying on unverified price lists.
With two cities, a new Cape Town venue and more names still to come, the announcement gives fans the most important planning details now while leaving the full programme open for later updates.
